XIR Laminated Glass

Southwall’s XIR® Laminated products encapsulate XIR “heat rejecting” film between two layers of PVB and glass. The finished product has a low-reflectance appearance, allowing greater than 70% visible light transmittance while reflecting ~50% of the invisible heat. Glazed monolithically or combined into sealed insulating glass units, XIR film can be laminated with annealed, heat strengthened, or tempered clear glass, or combined with tinted PVB and tinted glass.

XIR Laminated Monolithic

XIR Laminated Monolithic can be used in vertical, sloped, or overhead glazing applications. From curtain wall (captured or structurally glazed) to monumental skylights, this technology offers expanded choices of energy-efficient glazing. XIR Laminated Monolithic can be fabricated in nearly all flat or architecturally curved configurations. By using tinted glass as the inner lite, the desire for solar performance (daylighting and SHGC ratio) can be adjusted to meet your desired specifications.

Benefits

  • 72% light transmission – improves daylighting
  • Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) as low as 0.41 w/clear glass– lower HVAC system and operating costs, increased comfort
  • 8% visible reflectance – improves transparency
  • Blocks 99.5% UV rays – reduces interior fading
  • Uniform appearance over both flat and curved surfaces – not possible with coated glass
  • Reduces outdoor noise

XIR Laminated IGU

A pane of XIR laminated glass and a second pane of glass are bonded by a spacer and separated by a sealed air space. While selectively blocking UV and near-IR, an XIR laminated IGU also acts as an insulator that provides comfortable temperatures in both summer and winter.

Benefits

  • High neutrality — maximum clarity
  • 60% light transmission — improves daylighting
  • Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) as low as 0.30 w/clear glass— lower HVAC system and operating costs, increased comfort
  • 12% visible reflectance — lower glare & higher visibility
  • Low heat absorption — can eliminate costly tempering
  • U-value as low as 0.35 — high energy savings
  • Uniform appearance over both flat and curved surfaces

Applications

  • Skylights
  • Solariums
  • Large glass facades
  • Panoramic views
  • Control towers
  • Sports complexes
  • Libraries/museums
  • Medical facilities
  • Point-fixed glazing
  • Storefronts
  • Atriums
