Daylighting
Daylighting
Research from Lawrence Berkeley Lab suggests that proper daylighting can reduce annual perimeter-zone lighting energy by as much as 60% to 70%. Overall building energy use can be reduced by 10 % to 30% as compared to a similar non-daylit building, depending on such factors as the fraction of total building area that can be effectively daylit. Additional savings come from reducing building air conditioning and heating loads through the selection of efficient glazings and automatic shading.
Project: Louisville Water and Power Company Architect: Louis and Henry Group Product: Heat Mirror plus (SC 75/Azurlite)
While numerous strategies are available for achieving the optimal 50%-65% daylighting range, Heat Mirror equipped insulated glass provides the widest range of transmission options for maximum daylighting flexibility, while dramatically reducing both solar gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter. | Benefits- Provide a visually stimulating environment for building occupants, while minimizing glare
- Reduce building energy costs
- Increase user productivity
- Improve life cycle costs
- Maintain thermal comfort and low solar heat gain
