Office buildings typically feature the conflicting requirements of providing a pleasant and comfortable working environment for occupants,  while also being as energy efficient as possible. Glass selection is a key factor for enabling these requirements to be adequately met.

A number of studies have indicated that workplaces with higher levels of natural daylight and thermal comfort tend to promote increased productivity and satisfaction among occupants. Glass products with high light transmission, however, often permit excessive heat gain resulting in higher energy costs and reduced comfort.

Both XIR® Laminated glass and Heat Mirror® Insulating glass are "spectrally selective" products that provide relatively high light transmission and comfort while keeping energy costs down.
