Airports

Airport buildings present a number of unique challenges in terms of glass selection. These include sound insulation, solar control, condensation control, microwave energy control and visibility.

In warm summer conditions, the large expanses of glass typically found in airport terminal buildings create a strong need for glass with good solar control performance.

Reflective coated glass meets this need but results in an unwanted "mirror" effect when viewed from inside at night.

Low-reflectance XIR Laminated Glass reduces this problem and allows clear views to the outside, even at night.

Air traffic control towers require glass that provides clear viewing at all times, and that protects sensitive computer systems from microwave energy generated by airport radar equipment. XIR Laminated glass provides both high transparency and microwave attenuation.

Being a laminated product, XIR Laminated Glass also provides excellent sound reduction performance, especially at the low frequencies associated with aircraft "rumble".
